JOURNAL & REFLECTIONS

Some Thoughts Need More Room.

There are thoughts that arrive as sentences.
Others arrive as questions.
And some refuse to be understood until we sit with them long enough to discover what they are trying to say.
Journal & Reflections is a space for those longer conversations.
Some reflections emerge from my books.
Others come simply from living.
Not every reflection will arrive at a conclusion.
Sometimes the willingness to examine the question is where understanding begins.

Featured Reflection

When Conscience Refuses to Leave the Room
There are decisions we make and eventually forget.
There are others that seem to develop a memory of their own.
They follow us.
Not necessarily because the decision can be changed, but because something within us continues asking what the moment meant.

For years, I believed peace would come from putting certain experiences behind me.
I have learned that sometimes peace comes differently.
Sometimes we must turn around.
Look carefully at what followed us.
Give it a name.
And ask why it remained.
That understanding sits near the heart of Cost of a Verdict.
The verdict belonged to one moment.
The questions did not.

The Things We Carry Without Names
Not every grief begins with a funeral.
We grieve relationships.
Lost opportunities.
Homes.

Dreams.
Versions of ourselves we once imagined becoming.
Sometimes the difficulty is not simply carrying the loss.
It is carrying something we have never recognized as grief.

When Strength Becomes a Hiding Place

We often admire the person who carries everything.
The dependable one.
The provider.
The person everyone calls when something goes wrong.
But strength can become such an important part of our identity that we forget how to say:
I am tired.
There is a difference between being strong and believing we are never permitted to need strength
from someone else.

The Courage to Reconsider

Changing one's mind is sometimes mistaken for weakness.
But reconsideration can require courage.
Growth asks us to examine not only what we believe, but why we believe it.
The challenge is recognizing the difference between changing because we have discovered
something true and surrendering what we believe simply because standing alone has become
uncomfortable.

Beyond the Final Page

The Conversation Doesn't Have to End With the Book.
Writing a book may bring a manuscript to completion.
It does not necessarily bring its questions to an end.
Here, I will occasionally return to ideas that began within my books—exploring questions from
readers, thoughts that emerged after writing, and subjects that deserve further consideration.

A Conversation, Not a Conclusion

Journal & Reflections is a place where thought does not have to become certainty before it is
worth exploring.
A place where experience can be examined without pretending every wound has become
wisdom.
A place where difficult questions are allowed to remain difficult.
And a place where writer and reader can meet around something worth considering.
